Earth Hour is coming up on March 28th and it is a fun way to bring awareness to climate change by bringing a focus to our ability to affect change.
On March 28th, millions of people around the world will turn off their lights for one hour starting at 8:30 pm. Besides being a fun way to spread awareness, it is also a great way for families to spend time together!
Here are some fun family activities you can participate in without the lights:
Go on a Walk
Be active! Take your children on a walk around the neighbourhood. To make the walk a bit more exciting, see if you can spot any stars outside.
Play a Game
Some games are more fun in the dark. Hide and seek, telling silly or spooky stories, or playing a trivia game! Just remember to play safely in the dark – clear any clutter, move furniture, and pick a designated play area. If you’re lighting candles, make sure they’re out of reach so they won’t get knocked down.
Just Chat
Sometimes turning off our lights, screens, and other electronics means a chance to chat with your children. Take this time to talk to your children about, well, anything! You can start by talking about the environment, but also about their friends, healthy eating, games they like, sports, books – anything! Uninterrupted and without distraction, Earth Hour is a great time to bond with your children.
