10 Things to do With Your Children in Aurora

Aurora is a bustling community that offers a wealth of cultural and artistic opportunities for you and your family to enjoy. 1. The Aurora Cultural Centre

​ The Aurora Cultural Centre is an 1886 heritage building that began its life as a public school. It has been transformed into a centre for the arts, culture and heritage. The centre has four vibrant gallery exhibition spaces, a range of instructional classes for children, teens and adults, a live music series, special family events, summer arts camps and also offers rental spaces.

2. The Aurora Farmers Market

The Farmers Market opens the first Saturday in May and runs until Saturday, October 28th. It hosts approximately forty vendors, including farmers, food vendors, artisans and community groups. They have a children’s craft every Saturday and host special events approximately once a month.

3. The Aurora Museum and Archives

The Aurora Museum & Archives is a repository for the collective stories and experiences of the community.  They are committed to preserving, promoting and presenting the vibrant and ever-changing character of the town by making their collection accessible and available to the public. A great chance for you and your child to educate yourselves about the community around you.

4. The Aurora Sports Hall of Fame

A celebration of sport history and excellence, dedicated to the recognition of the important place that sporting events have within the Town of Aurora. Visitors are encouraged to explore and appreciate the rich sports heritage and achievements that Aurora offers.

5. Marquee Theatrical Productions​​

Marquee Theatrical Productions offers educational classes, camps and workshops that teach acting, improvisation, voice instruction, dancing, stage movement and theatre etiquette. Students develop many valuable life skills such as self-confidence, communication skills, teamwork, leadership, respect, time management and responsibility, within a group dynamic. Marquee offers various children and youth programs from 10 months – 18 years old.

6. The Skylight Gallery

The Skylight Gallery hosts exhibitions by local painters and sculptors. Backboards and track lighting are set up to display artwork in a striking setting and admission to this changing art show is free. A chance for you and your child to learn about and be inspired by local artists.

7. The Aurora Wildlife Park

The Aurora Wildlife Park is located in the natural open space corridor, within the area known as the East Aurora Wetland Complex. The area has been designated as a Provincially Significant Wetland by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests. The park currently consists of an integrated series of grasslands, woodlands, wetlands and two large ponds.

8. Aurora’s Concert In The Park Series

Mark your calendars! Aurora’s summer tradition will continue in 2020 with an outdoor concert every Wednesday in July and August. The concert line-up and locations will be released in late June 2020, but 2019’s line-up consisted of a variety of family friendly options.

9. Aurora’s Ribfest

The event will be taking place at Machell Park August 28th – 30th, 2020. There will be tasty ribs, roasted yams, roasted corn on the cob, beavertails and much more. There is also great live entertainment, an inflatable midway and activities for children of all ages.

10. Theatre Aurora

Theatre Aurora currently produces five shows each season (September – June) and has an active youth program for those ages 10-18, who want to develop both theatre and acting skills. Youth Members not only put on their own productions, but are highly involved in all Theatre Aurora shows.
