Once the weather becomes nice and plants come into bloom all we want to do is be outside! There are so many great options to take advantage of with the family. Here are a few fun, family friendly activities to partake in throughout the GTA this spring! What are you waiting for? Get to it!
Parks and Other Outdoor Fun
The GTA has so many beautiful parks to explore. Whether you’re bringing the family dog and tossing around the Frisbee or packing up some sandwiches and having a fun picnic, there’s park with your name on it! Here are some of our favourite parks to visit during the warmer months:
- High Park
- Toronto Island Park
- Trinity Bellwoods
- Sherbourne Common Park
- Riverdale Farm
- Rouge Park
Also be sure to visit the Toronto Zoo and High Park Zoo!
Educational
If you’re looking to spend your weekend in an educational fashion, we have just the ticket. Here are a few stimulating and fun activities to partake in if you want to broaden your horizons:
- ROM Walks – every Wednesday and Sunday the Royal Ontario Museum hosts walks around some of Toronto’s historical neighbourhoods. Bring the whole family and learn about Toronto’s architectural and cultural past while discussing our growing city.
- Toronto Public Library – the Toronto Public Library has tons of awesome fun family-friendly events that take place throughout the year! From arts and crafts to storytelling there’s always something terrific happening!
- Science Centre – the science centre offers Solar Observing for kids to get up close and personal with the closest star to the earth – the sun! Kids can safely observe the sun through a special like telescope and learn fun facts about the solar system.
Markets
Going to the market is such a fantastic way to teach children about fresh produce, healthy eating and buying local. We’re so lucky that the GTA has a bevy of fantastic markets to choose from. We suggest:
- Lawrence Market
- Kensington Market
- TBH Organic Farmers Market
